Numerical studies based on plane frame static pushover analyses of typical existing irregular reinforced concrete frames, designed according to past design codes in Greece, have established their overstrength, global ductility capacity, and behavior factor. Typical irregularities considered include setback, discontinuous member, and tall ground story. These are compared herein with Incremental Dynamic Analysis predictions from spectrum compatible base excitations, using similar conventional failure criteria. It is shown that for certain irregularities, static predictions differ from those from dynamic analysis, exhibiting excitation and irregularity form dependent failure mechanisms.
