The Republic of Korea has been the object of numerous researches because of its development experience-historically unprecedented high growth in the 1960s-90s, followed by the economic crisis in 1997, a swift recovery, then the recent slowdown. Many books on the Korean economy have previously been written, but these largely focused on the first part of the Republic of Korea's development history, i.e., the high growth episode in the second half of the twentieth century, more commonly referred to as the Han River miracle. These books also often highlighted the controversy surrounding the effectiveness of policies-such as industrial policies-implemented by the Korean government. But not many books have been written about the Republic of Korea's economic management during its transition from middle- to high-income country. This book fills that gap.
