摘要

Good Jobs America is a response to increased levels of earnings inequality in the United States. The authors argue that such inequality is likely to be a persistent feature of the economic landscape, even after the Great Recession has ended. They are relatively optimistic about the ability of labor market regulation such as minimum wages and of unions (in a less hostile legal environment for organizing workers) to raise wages of poorly paid workers without significant losses of employment. But the most interesting and distinctive part of the book describes a richer, more complicated strategy-nudging and assisting a subset of low-wage employers to pursue a "high road" employment strategy, with better wages and "ladders" from unskilled to more skilled employment. The authors see a role for education and training in creating such ladders, but they argue that these are much more likely to succeed as part of a larger initiative that involves employers directly.
