With the global economic recession and the subsequent economic restraints among potential customers in European and North American markets, travellers are continuing to watch their holiday travel expenditures. We think responsible tourism is gaining ground; not due to customer demand but because the tourism industry and governments are generally moving in that direction. With increased awareness and appreciation of the positive benefits responsible travel can offer, the concept over time will gain ground with a larger market segment. Right now though, we suspect the market for responsible tourism has been to some extent overrated which continues to pose risks for innovative and sustainably minded tourism operators.
