摘要

Immobilization of cells on a suitable support simplify the treatment of liquid waste as the entrapment of living cell increasing the retention time of cells on contaminated water The present study aimed at free and immobilized cells of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were used as biosorbent material for the removal of Zn, Mg, and Ba from chemical industrial waste water. Removal of metals is drastic under immobilized conditions compared to free cells of P.aeruginosa.The influence of various factors such as pH, incubation time, initial concentration of biomass and temperature were also reported to optimize the process. Compared to free cell, immobilized cells of P. aeruginosa are more efficient in the removal of heavy metals such as Barium. Immobilized cells of P. aeruginosa exhibited maximum sorption level of Barium 42 %, Mg 33 %, Zn 18 %, optimal biomass concentration of 12 mg/ ml, optimal time 180 min, optimal temperature 35°C and the pH 10.
