Effect of different concentrations (1000, 750,500, 250 & 125 ppm) of Mentha spicata on shoot borer (Chilo infuscatellus) has been studied in selected solvents under laboratory condition.. At 1000 ppm concentration of M..spicata, shoot borer larvae showed the highest mortality (18.5-24.5%) in all solvents. Effective treatment such as M. spicata extracts with Acetone was selected and studied for their impact on protein profile in the juvenile of C. infuscatellus by electrophoresis method. Reduction of storage protein band (0.00) and some other protein bands were observed in the haemolymph protein of early shoot borer . This reduction of protein bands may be due to the impact of M. spicata extract. This protein profile changes in this larvae may have resulted in the highest mortality (24.5-24.9%) in the first day after treatment even in the lower concentration (125 ppm) in all solvents. Thus, M. spicata extracts were effective insecticide and may be recommended for sugarcane pest C. infuscatellus.
