摘要

The introduction of GSM digital mobile technology has not been without its challenges for Telecom Australia. Interference issues involving both base stations and mobile phones have had to be addressed and resolved. Unavoidable comparisons with the popular existing analog network, combined with limited availability of competitive handsets, has resulted in initial poor acceptance of GSM. Telecom Australia has had to manage the rapid expansion of the analog network while at the same time deploying a national GSM network in a competitive environment. The possible introduction of other digital technologies such as Digital European Cordless Telephone (DECT) and Digital Communication System 1800 (DCS 1800) and spectrum management issues will ensure that significant commercial and technological challenges will continue for some time to come.
