Planning for business contingency means, among the other activities, choosing between alternative layout configurations, which often require differ- ent investment levels. Such investments are targeted at establishing appropriate redundancy level that reduce the likelihood of incurring in inefficiency costs, which sometimes are far higher than the invest- ments, themselves. A "suitable"' disaster-recovery layout configuration must be half-way between exces- sively redundant and over-simplified configurations that is, it must balance investment and inefficiency costs.
