This articleis the third in a series that began with an exploration of the political history of public housing1. That first piece explored the idea that many of the problems that challenge our affordable housing industry today have their genesis in the political compromises that precede the passage of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937. It also examined the conditions that are present in our nation's early response to a housing crisis that resulted in a housing policy that apportions resources to the housing goals of the wealthy in greater measure than to the critical housing needs of the economically poor. Finally, the article looked at key themes that shine some light on how we might effectively affect significant change in American housing policy today.
