Effects that are due to toner charge are clearly seen on the thin substrates and are discussed in the article.1 These observations clearly refute the allegation that the toner particles all had the same charge. Moreover, the charge on the toner was measured both before and after development, as reported in our papers. ' There is only a small quantity of toner in the development station (initial load was approximately 0.8 g). If the toner deposited on the substrate were low charged, it would have measurably shifted the charge-to-mass ratio of the developer after development, from that measured before development. No such shift was observed.
