I understand both public and private aspects of public transport, and both governmental and private management, having worked in rail for more than 41 years; 13 years with the former Japanese National Railways, and another 28 years with East Japan Railway Company after Japanese National Railways was privatised and divided into six passenger railway companies and a freight railway company. With 17 million passengers a day, East Japan Railway Company could be considered the largest passenger railway company in the world. My experience with such huge traffic volume has included the entire range of safety, operation and maintenance including both passenger and freight railways.
