It is clear that risk management is rising up the agenda of many organisations in the public and private sector, and transport organisations are no exception. It is also clear that risk management is expanding from the traditional safety based approach to include a broad spectrum of risks, and even to permeate the very fabric of day to day planning and service delivery management.rnThe example from Austrian Airlines serves to show that risk management can be as much about opportunities as it is about mitigating unforeseen adverse outcomes, and can be successfully integrated into the core management fabric of the organisation in a way that has a direct impact on the achievement of overall profit.
