The purpose of the SORT programme has been to fine-tune 'Standard On Road Test cycles'. For several years a working group made up of operators and constructors worked under the umbrella of UITP to develop the project. This study was the subject of a 2004 publication and the implemented procedure is beginning to become widely adopted in calls for tenders.rnA quick reminder of the stakes involvedrnThe first is economic, the second ecological. The cost of energy is constantly rising and the new EU Directive on the purchase of 'clean' buses is forcing us to think longer and harder about the problem of pollutants.
