摘要

The UITP Sustainable Development Charter is celebrating its fifth birthday. Launched at the UITP World Congress in Madrid in 2003 with 33 signatories, there are now more than 130 signatories, encompassing 30 countries. In my estimation this means that approximately 2 million employees in the public transport sector should be aware of their organisation's commitment to sustainable development and to the Charter, and should be managing their daily activities in line with this approach. This edition of Public Transport International is the third edition dedicated to this issue and it seems to be an appropriate time to review and examine how the UITP Sustainable Development Charter and the Sustainable Development Commission are advancing and how this work is supporting UlTP's international advocacy role.
