The 9th UITP Light Rail Conference, one of the most successful LRT events worldwide, was held on 11-13 June in Istanbul on the theme of "Keep the World Cool with LRT!". More than 300 participants from all 'over the world attended the conference, hosted by Istanbul Ulasim. The Light Rail Conference was preceded by a study tour of Light Rail systems in Konya, Eskisehir, Bursa and Istanbul between 7-11 June 2008. The handing over of the 2008 Light Rail Awards to commendable light rail projects brought the conference to a close.
