Rail ale trails have been around for over a decade: today there are over 25 around the country, covering tram as well as rural, urban and inter-urban heavy rail routes. Whilst some have been the initiative of the train operator, in most cases they are a combination of the efforts of Community Rail Partnerships and local branches of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).rnThe objectives of Rail Partnerships and the Community Rail Development Strategy are wider than just increasing rail traffic, including delivering economic and social benefits and regeneration to local communities.
