Land planning, land use, and, with them, the urbanistic integration of transport installations, play an important role in the overall mobility-management framework. This is because traffic routes are the lifelines of cities. Since time immemorial, they have not only provided people with the means to travel, but have also been places of encounter and communication as well as sites of communal and individual experiences. The street area therefore not only fulfils a traffic management function, but also an occupancy function. Traffic increases produce more than just the familiar environmental problems. People's demands for agreeable surroundings also make urbanis-tic solutions increasingly vital and necessary. The correlation between a city's attractiveness and economic suc-cess within a situation of competition with other neighbouring districts should also be cited here. The urbanistic integration of public transport installations is a significant element in this respect and wields direct influence over the city's allure.
