摘要

This is an extremely engaging book which challenges many assumptions that are taken for granted around begging, gender and childhoods in Ecuador. It is presented in a lively manner, using rich examples and providing a clear overview of begging as a livelihood strategy. It is based on in-depth fieldwork conducted over 19 months at multiple sites (Quito, Guayaquil and Calhuasi), which included over 125 interviews with women, children, politicians, community leaders, teachers, police officers and other relevant stakeholders.
