A solid-state reaction mechanism for the formation of Ba_6-xLn_8+2x/3Ti_18O_54 (Ln =Nd, Sm) solid solutions has been studied using x-ray powder diffraction, thermal analyses, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). During the interaction of the starting reagents, Ln_2ti_2O_7, baTi_4O_9, and BaTiO_3 are formed.
