Steven Lee's Ethics and War and Paolo Tripodi and Jessica Wolfendale's New Wars and New Soldiers are two recently published books that examine military ethics in the twenty-first century. These books should be read in tandem; Lee provides a thorough history of the just war tradition, while Tripodi and Wolfendale examine the tradition but also some other ethical concerns surrounding contemporary warfare that Lee does not address. As such, I would recommend reading Lee first.
