BC's paper provides a service in its dissection of the twin peaks. But I question their interpreting the observation that only open economies exhibited the phenomenon as implying that openness was the cause of the phenomenon. While BC's labor-market explanation is thought-provoking I do not think that macro data are up to the job of establishing it. I want more direct evidence from the labor markets.
