Innovative business strategies like Hospitel, Long Stay, and Homecare Service allow the convergence of some aspects of hospital and hotel operations so as to achieve competitive advantage. However, the roadmap to implement these strategies can be quite challenging as is evident in a series of surveys and in - depth interviews of both small and large hospitals and hotels, government agencies, industrial associations, and software vendors in Thailand. The findings show that majority of these organizations have information systems that are aligned with these innovative strategies and confident support systems that are more than adequate. However, sources indicate that, except for very large hospitals, these convergent strategies are a bit too innovative for this developing economy. Although some common factors, such as cost / benefit considerations, the need for service minded personnel and a lack of supportive government regulations have played a role in strategy implementation. A very important precondition to the willingness to adopt these convergent strategies is to the changing of the basic beliefs of stakeholders, so as : to convince hospital patrons that the hospitals are not the only places for health restoration, and on the same token, the hotel customers also belief that the hotels can be more than the places of enjoying and relaxation.
