摘要

Disorientating democracy, by Clare Woodford, is an important new contribution to the growing field of scholarship on the work of French thinker Jacques Ranciere. Woodford demonstrates that she is both an attentive reader of Ranciere's work and a critical commentator as she seeks to carve out her own position. She engages with existing key commentary, responds to critics of Ranciere's work, and provides much needed clarity with examples on Rancierean concepts. Whilst Woodford makes alignments with other key Rancierian commentators, she also demarcates her project by identifying explicit disagreements with their respective readings and considering the consequences this has for a politics of emancipation. There are no real substantial differences between these key commentators, but it nonetheless demonstrates marginal differences and contestability within Ranciere scholarship.
