摘要

Radio Cultures: The Sound Medium in American Life is a notable addition to the body of literature addressing the impact of radio on American life. Assembling a variety of scholars and practitioners, the prolific radio scholar Michael Keith has edited a volume that examines the social and political influence radio has exerted in the US. While this is terrain that has been excavated before, Keith's particular focus here is the marginalized communities that have both contributed to and been excluded from the development of radio. As a result of this focus, the chapters of this book point toward "ways in which 'mainstream' values were either perpetrated or challenged through radio."
