These volumes bring to a conclusion the monumental (848 page), and surely definitive, 70-year history of this unique British military training railway. During the period of these volumes it extended some eight miles through Hampshire moorland from Borden to Liss with extensive yards and the unique Holly water loop line over which continuous long running could be practised. Longmoor taught soldiers to use railways to supply the essential army logistic services before the more flexible motor transport made the railways' role obsolete.
