In Spacecraft Control Systems, Star Sensors provide orientation/attitude information of satellite on orbit using the star positions in the sky as reference. A typical star sensor consists of a Camera Head Unit (CHU) and an Attitude Processing Unit (APU). CHU collects star information from the sky using optics and detector, while APU processes the star positions obtained from CHU into meaningful information (attitude) and sends it to Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) of satellite. Improving the accuracy from last two generations of Star Sensors, Mark-3 Star Sensor (M3SS) has been developed as a multi head configuration of CHUs with a centralized APU. M3SS is based on CMOS Active Pixel Sensor (APS) detector with 1K×1K elements array size. In order to test the functionalities of the APU and CHU end to end, both units should be available at the same time for the flow of commands and data respectively. To avoid the dependency of either unit on the other, there must be a provision for both to be tested independently. This necessitates the need of a CHU Simulator which behaves as a CHU in absence of CHU to test APU hardware and correspondingly an APU Simulator which acts as an APU for testing CHU hardware. The objective is to simulate the behaviour of CHU/APU in a software package so as to avoid waiting for the counter part's availability.
