摘要

Based upon case material and therapeutic narrative, this paper explores the nature of theology done in the practice of pastoral psychotherapy with a focus on the relationship between atonement theories and transference. Beginning with the idea that all transference is really the transfer of pain, the project explores the various theories of atonement and the nature of transference in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Relying on the thought of Freud, Klien, Bion, Grotstein, Girard and the early church theologians, this work places special emphasis on the parallel between transference and atonement dynamics that arise especially when treating personality disordered and severely traumatized persons. The paper raises the question: If psychoanalysis developed from the point of view of the therapist, would Christ and not Oedipus be the central figure?
