摘要

A new kind of 3D knitted fabric, named 3D biaxial spacer weft-knitted fabric, is introduced to demonstrate the advantage of a 3D structure. A unit-cell model of the 3D knitted fabric reinforced composite has been developed to define the stiffness/compliance matrix. The elasto-plastic constitutive relations of the composite were deduced to characterize the material's behavior. The failure criteria of the composite is a kind of critical damage area (CDA), i.e. composite failure will occur only when stresses exceed the local fiber strength and a CDA has been reached. The unit-cell failure and stiffness degradation is discussed based on the failures of different fiber tows.
