Closed-form expressions for temperatures and elastic thermal stresses in an infinite hollow two-material compound cylinder subject to steady-periodic sinusoidal ambient temperatures are presented, taking finite heat transfer coefficients into account. The fluctuating temperatures and stresses in the cylinder are expressed in terms of complex-valued modified Bessel functions under the assumption of temperature-independent material properties. Transient thermal loads composed of linear temperature ramps are expressed as Fourier series, and studied by the presented method. In order to verify the analytic results, examples involving sinusoidal and linear loads are examined by finite element calculations.
