The volume is a collection of articles from the conference of the Royal Geographical Society - Institute of British Geographers, held in London in 2010. The scope of the book is broad, discussing both physical mobilities and their representations - cultural meanings attached to moving in space or inability to do so. It focuses on travel by various means of transportation but also on communications at-a'-distance, and encompasses chapters on tourism as well as on commuting to work. Geographically, it is slightly unbalanced because studies on the former socialist states of Southern Europe and on the Soviet Union dominate the volume.
