When we set out on this rather daunting journey of guest editing an issue of Landscape Architecture Australia, we reflected on our 2014 experience abroad in Europe and our new home in Newcastle, Australia. By shifting our landscape contexts quke radically over the past eighteen months, what have we learnt about landscape architecture and what frontiers lie ahead in future practices? For those of you who do not know us, Chris Johnstone is a seasoned practitioner and SueAnne Ware is an academic of sorts. While our personal relationship is approaching twenty years, our collaboration together is in its nascent stages. We saw this opportunity to guest edit as a way of extending our discussions about the profession into a more formal realm. We debate pretty much everything with respect to landscape architecture and we rarely capture these conversations, let alone find productive ends to their instigation. So we decided that we would put out a call to practitioners and academics, some as collaborators and some as individuals, to respond to a brief. The brief and its selected recipients resonated with both of us but in truth we had no fixed idea of what we might receive from our diverse group of colleagues. Indeed, in commissioning these authors we were seeking to call forward something beyond the usual mandate of the magazine. When the submissions came in we were not disappointed.
