摘要

The twenty-first century is characterised by globalisation, which many consider to be the driving force of sociological, cultural and economic development in many societies and which has definitely had an impact on how English is used, taught and learned globally. McKay and Bokhorst-Heng in their book International English in its sociolinguistic contexts: towards a socially sensitive EIL pedagogy discuss how English has gained its prominent status as a world language and why language educators need to reconsider their approach to the teaching of English in the light of various contexts in which it is used.
