摘要

DEXTR is a data conversion and extraction program that is a mature business application reasonably priced for individuals and small companies for use on the Windows platform. The expanded use of Internet connectivity, a runtime module, and batch operations allow for a complete application environment, including conventional conversion routines, joining multiple formats into one, and data migration. Internet file saving and parsing allows gathering of information for financial, academic, and strategic intelligence. Extraction from Web pages can be done using preselected lists of URLs, FTP and HTTP spidering, and while visiting individual pages. DEXTR is robust for Web page information extraction from standardized HTML pages or XML pages, but extraction from pages that vary in formats is more difficult because sophisticated methods must be used. The learning curve is moderate and is within the range of those with basic database concepts. The program is evaluated in terms of business use, comparison with other programs in this category, and in particular with academic research on the Net.
