Brill offers here a collection of 2,360 formerly classified U.S. government documents (most were classified top secret or higher) illustrating the U.S. intelligence community's spying on the USSR throughout the Cold War. It covers the period from the end of World War II to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The collection also contains a variety of formerly classified articles and reports completed by American intelligence historians since the Cold War's end. Included are an introductory essay, an extensive bibliography, and a Cold War chronology dating from May 8, 1945, when Nazi Germany surrendered, to October 25, 1991, when former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev resigned all of his government positions. Three glossaries containing acronyms, organizations, and important figures during the era are highlighted as well.
