A friend of mine, purchasing his first airplane, asked me what was the most important thing he needed to know about owning an airplane. I told him that how long and how high the airplane flew was in direct proportion to the amount of money he was able to stack under the wings. It was only half in jest.rnPrideful aircraft owners are, by nature, a curious lot and spend a lot time cleaning, polishing and, dare we say, tinkering with their airplane. The cost of maintenance is rising so fast that many owners, like the subscribers of Light Plane Maintenance, are actively seeking ways to reduce FBO or shop rate costs by getting their hands dirty (LPM Sept. 2008).
