The Continental fuel injection system is simple and relatively efficient considering its stone age type design. A good trade for reasonable cost and high reliability. Mixture control is a simple matter of adjusting the quantity of fuel returned to the pump inlet.rnOther than cleaning screens and nozzles on a regular basis, little is required in the form of frequent maintenance. With care, the Continental injector system will give years of trouble free service and when it does fail, fixing it is easy-provided the proper tools are used in diagnostics and adjustments.rnProbably the single biggest issue with out-of-adjustment systems is a failure of the mechanics to take the time to rent or otherwise acquire accurate and appropriate measurement devices. The other issue is with systems that have accumulated excessive wear in the adjustment components. This leads to an endless cycle of repeat squawks by the owner that "whatever they did this time didn't work either."rnLastly, some shops make the erroneous assumption that a freshly overhauled unit only needs to be bolted to the engine. The system may be simple but fine tuning needs to be be done unless you want to settle for a mediocre level of performance.rnFinally, the results of the tuning efforts need to be test flown, not ground-tested for accuracy.
