摘要

It is essentially a combination of sulfur trioxide and water, better known as sulfuric acid. And it is exceedingly corrosive to all but a few materials. It is also explosive in its gaseous state and toxic to anything with lungs. It is your battery's lifeblood and an absolute necessity in producing electrical energy for your aircraft. But containment of this devilish brew can be difficult if not downright dangerous. While the new and more expensive recombinant gas batteries (commonly known as AGM batteries), which are sealed to the atmosphere eliminate much of the venting issues, a haywire voltage regulator can cause even these batteries to vent through a pressure relief valve-and be severely and permanently reduced in capacity or even destroyed in the process. So even these batteries do not eliminate the need for frequent visual inspections, but they do help reduce the maintenance required after visual checks.
