Multimeters can range in price from under $10 to over $1500. What can account for this huge price range? Three things primarily-quality (including reliability and the ability to be dropped), accuracy, and features. Forthe average aircraft user, three decimal e.g. 1.001 accuracy is not needed, but reliability and quality is. I own meters from both ends of the price scale, and in-between. In fact, I own 10 multimeters, four of which I built myself from kits over the years when I was big into Ham radio (the fact that two of these meters plug in to AC electrical power and use vacuum tubes, gives you an idea how long I have been involved with this subject). I am a huge fan of multimeter versatility, and have digital and analog types as well as scope-meters, which have an oscilloscope-like display of the electrical waveform under test. Pure DC would be a straight line, but sometimes you will find an AC component superimposed on a DC circuit or "dirty" DC. Battery chargers are one example, as may be an alternator, which can cause noisy speakers on the comm.
