Considering that owner-per-formed-maintenance has to be logged and signed off by someone holding at least a private pilot certificate, how about VOR checks? I say they have to be performed and signed off in the aircraft logs. My airplane partner says these sign-offs don't have to be in the logs at all. The answer is in FAR 91.171, which says: d) Each person making the VOR operational check, as specified in paragraph (b) or (c) of this section, shall enter the date, place, bearing error, and sign the aircraft log or other record.
