With the increase in fuel prices aircraft performance is becoming more and more of a priority on owner's minds. We would all like to get more performance for less gas. We will address some of the more common areas needing attention to help improve aircraft performance. Foremost in the quest for performance is that of at least bringing an aircraft back to book performance when the aircraft was new. Unfortunately, most general aviation aircraft now fall into the category of "aging aircraft." Aging aircraft suffer a loss of performance as a result of several factors, such as casual maintenance actions not consistent with maintaining original performance specifications (especially to include failure to verify aircraft rigging, which can exact a huge performance penalty).
