Less than three years after inaugurating its first tramline in Casablanca, Morocco, plans for a 2km (1.2-mile) extension and a second line were unveiled in May. The existing line 1 links Sidi Moumen in the east with Ain Diab and the Facultes district in the west with a 31km (19-mile) double-track route that opened on 12 December 2012. There are also a further 6.5km (4.1 miles) of track at the depot. Initial works are now underway on the T1 extension to the Lissasfa district.
