As lighting components fail, they must be replaced. Dirt and dust collect on luminaire surfaces, which must be cleaned to restore luminaire efficiency. These immutable laws of maintenance apply to all lighting systems, including LED. However, just as other aspects of lighting practice have had to adapt to this new technology, so must maintenance. Let's start with replacement, which requires understanding of failure mode. LED sources are typically rated based on average lumen maintenance-L70, L80, L90 or some other point. The owner must then decide when to replace the product based on their light level needs.
