There are projections that LEDs will dominate the lighting world within the next 10-30 years, depending on which prognosticator you listen to. Yet, most people don't know how an LED works nor how easily that fast-moving train can get derailed. We are surrounded by LEDs, the dominant source for low-level backlighting for cell phones, smart phones and laptops; some LEDs are used for the mid-level lighting in TV screens, and others for tail lights and headlights in cars and trucks.
