Reviewing the new PC-11 heavy-duty engine oil category developments, it's noteworthy how much effort is going into oxidation testing. This is because the Sequence IIIG engine test, the General Motors sponsored test which has been used as the oil industry's proxy-standard for oxidation resistance, is on the way out. The repercussions from this loss are pretty far-reaching, on both the passenger car and diesel oil sides. The Sequence IIIG is a "linchpin" test, used to compare base stocks for interchange under API's oil licensing system.
