There is no doubt the lubricant business is moving through an extraordinarily dynamic period, a period full of changes and challenges impacting lubricant manufacturers and marketers, base oil and additive suppliers, and others in the business. The good news is that we are also living in time of extraordinary opportunities in the lubricants business — for those who know how to sniff them.out and capitalize on them. One of today's most visible and sought-after opportunities is found by looking outside the windows of the traditional markets. While volumes in North America, Western Europe and other mature markets are flat to declining, demand is climbing in developing and emerging markets. These include China, India, Brazil, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, South Africa, Ukraine, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Nigeria, Philippines and others. Although these markets were also hurt by the global downturn in the economy, they are resilient and rebounding, and in the process will be looking to quench their thirst for industrial and automotive lubricants.
