OS X Mavericks added the ability to apply tags to files and folders in the Finder. What it didn't add was a convenient way to apply those tags via the keyboard-but you can easily set up a custom keyboard shortcut to open the tagging interface. The basic process will be familiar to anyone who has read Mac OS X Hints for any amount of time: First go to System Preferences → Keyboard, open the Shortcuts tab, select App Shortcuts from the list on the left, and click the plus (+) button.
