Indian Textiles Ministry issued a draft notification prescribing quality standards for cotton bales as per the norms established by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). BIS will be the certifying and enforcing authority. In addition, an officer not below the rank of General Manager, district industries centre in the department of industries of the State Government will also be the enforcing authority, according to a report in top Indian business daily.
