Synthetic dyes pigments and many other chemicals are utilised for dyeing of cotton and polyester fabric. These dyes are not eco friendly; even the method of dyeing developers the problem. The problems due to synthetic dyes gave way to the research in natural dyes and pigments. This paper showcases the use of red onion peel (Allium cepa) pigment as a natural source for dyeing of cotton and silk fabric. The main objectives were determination of time for extraction of pigment, time for dyeing, concentration of dye source and mordants, time for dye fixation without any damage to fabric and testing of colour fastness properties of dyed fabric.
