摘要

Eri, the only non-mulberry domesticated variety of silk, is not reelable and is used for the production of spun yarn only. It is almost as fine as mulberry silk and even softer than mulberry. It has outstanding thermal property. Eri fibre can supplement high quality imported wool to a great extent for producing various kinds of woven and knitted products. In this article, an exhaustive study on some mechanical properties as well as thermal insulation value of different set of eri fabric has been made and compared with wool fabric to establish how far eri can supplement good quality wool in apparel field. Four samples of different cover factor of each category have been prepared, and mechanical properties like tensile strength, abrasion resistance, flexural rigidity, % drape coefficient, TIV % (comparative), warp and weft assistance, etc. have been measured.
