摘要

The glory of textiles trade lies in its colour.Colour is considered a spiritual necessity of equal importance as the physical needs of food. In textiles, while the fabric provides the body, dyeing provides the soul and printing provides the life. Poinsettia (Poinsettia melatika) is a tall shrub which grows to height varying 2 to 3 meters. It is an attractive plant suitable for cultivating in winter. These leaves contain colour pigment capable for producing a wide range of colours on silk. Leaves were collected from Pantnagar, dried in shade and used to extract the dye on silk. Silk cloth has always been noted for its excellent range of brilliant colours. Researchers have made use of silk's affinity for water borne dye stuffs to create a wide range of colours with improved fastness.
